Medication Use

Prefer a video tutorial?

1) If you are possession of an inventory:
-Select Medication Use on home screen (Or your agency term for this action)

If you are not in possession of an inventory:
-Select Menu>Inventories>Click on inventory>Medication Use (Or agency term)>Green "+" Icon

2) Select Medication

No Control Values Present

• Select the name of the medication(s) you are administering
  • More than one medication can be selected if administering multiple narcotics. 
  • If multiple lot/expiration are present for that medication, you will be asked to select the correct one.
• Enter the # of vials used for each medication selected on the next page. 

Control Values (CV) Present

• Scan the CV Barcode on each medication administered.
  • Multiple medications can be documented under the same medication use. 
    
    

• If unable to scan barcode, you can manually enter in the control value OR toggle "Select Manually" and choose from the list of available control values

3) Enter Values

• # of vials used (If not using CV) 
• Dosage of medication administered + wasted
• Trip #
  • Your agency may require you to enter the run number for the call you administered the medication. Please refer to your agency's SOP on whether or not this is needed. 
    
    

• • If you prefer to enter values in terms of volume (mL) instead of dosage (mg / mcg), this can be toggled at the top of the page:

4) Documentation Requirements (NAEMSP Informative Article)

• Enter "Standing" or "Verbal" orders to administer. (1304.27.10)
• Enter Designated Waste location per your agency protocol. (1304.27.7)

4) Review and Finalize with Signatures

• PIN will be entered by the administering paramedic first and the witness second
  • A waste signature may or may not be required when there is zero waste depending on agency configuration / SOP
• Depending on agency configuration, a manual nurse signature may be used for the witness (i.e. your agency allows non-agency personnel to witness waste)
