What Barcodes Should I Be Scanning?
GS1 Barcodes
A GS1 DataMatrix is a 2D barcode, which is represented as a square or rectangular symbol made up of individual dots or squares, that can encode and mark large amounts of data in a small space, and it's readable in any orientation.
For pharmaceutical products, these barcodes not only store the product's NDC, but also additional critical information such as lot number, expiration, and serial number.

- GTIN: (01)09504000059118 - NDC stored within this data
- Batch/lot number: (10)7654321D
- Expiration date: (17)141120
- Serial number: (21)10987654d32
You will scan this barcode, printed on the outside of the product package (box containing drugs), whenever adding products to your purchase order or selecting products to be issued from your station inventory.
